In Japanese culture, cranes are a powerful symbol of health and well-wishes. Cranes for Kids was inspired by the ancient Japanese legend promising that anyone who folds 1,000 origami cranes will be granted a wish, most commonly recovery from illness or long life. Kids can create and submit paper cranes, and in exchange, OshKosh B’Gosh will donate up to 50,000 pieces of children’s apparel. In addition, OshKosh B’Gosh will provide a special ten percent discount to anyone who brings their crane to a store.

Origami crane instructions and paper are available, at no cost, at all OshKosh B’Gosh stores, including a special cut-out version for younger children. Families can also

Families can also participate by posting a picture of their crane on the OshKosh B’Gosh Facebook page.

Cranes will be collected at OshKosh B’Gosh stores from March 29, 2011 to April 25, 2011 or can be mailed to:

Virtual Petition Against The "Whitewash" AKIRA movie

Saturday, March 26, 2011

I have a rant post sitting in draft about the BS that happened with the movie "The Last Airbender". Replacing the original theme of Asian characters with white one's caused such an uproar and with good reason.

But seems that same BS is about to happen again with the movie AKIRA. Once again the movie making powers want to replace Asian actors with white one within an "Asian" movie. WTF! Once again an uproar has started which lead to the "Don't Whitewash AKIRA!" Virtual Petition.

Dont Whitewash AKIRA Petition
Racebending.com has created this event page to track the number of media consumers and fans who want to send a clear message to Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures, and the production of AKIRA: Don't Whitewash Akira!

On March 21st, 2011, Deadline.com reported that eight actors have been solicited for the roles of Tetsuo and Kaneda in AKIRA. All of the actors solicited were white. If not in a film called Akira, for characters named Kaneda and Tetsuo, when will Asian Americans get to star in a Warner Bros film?

MORE INFORMATION AT: http://www.racebending.com/v4/featured/akira-adaptation-courts-white-actors/

What is it with Hollywood trying to remake "Asian" movies without Asians?! While I applaud Race Bending for once again taking a stand to have more Asian actors casted, I worry that once again another movie will be made that replaces people of color with white people. I hope this time around more people will add their voice to this issue.

BTW, I really need to post that rant about The Last Airbender movie because I'm STILL pissed and want my $15 back!

Is Amy Hodgepodge repping the blasian community?

I remember when I first heard about the Amy Hodgepodge line of books. I was so excited. None other then Kim Wayans was going to put a book on the market (along with husband Kevin Knotts) that gives a face and voice to multiracial child. A child who just happens to be asian and black. For those that don't know, Amy is a very interesting mix of Japanese, African American, Korean (woot!) and White. So homegirl is repping some major mixed race heritage.

Amy Hodgepodge books

I've been following Amy since she first launched on the scene 2 years ago. While she's been a boon to the mixed race community in general and to the kids literary community. All her friends are mixed race with parents of some asian, white, hispanic, and black pairing. But still Amy hasn't been so active in the blasian community. What's gives?

Now maybe I've missed something since I've been all wrapped up in being mom to my son but as I look around within the asian and black community I noticed we really don't talk about her. I also notice Amy really doesn't talk about us.....

Did I miss something? Is the blasian connection being downplayed? Do I need to call a blasian intervention?! My people, let me know your thoughts.

[tweetmeme source="euphorialuv" only_single=false http://www.URL.com]

I know some of ya'll might feel I'm famous and get lots of press. In some ways, maybe. LOL. But I'm excited to tell you many other black women dating/married to Asian men are also famous and press worthy in their own right. I'd say that Tara Kamiya is even more famous since she and her Japanese husband were featured on the Season 2 of TLC 4 Weddings. With 2 marriages under my belt I haven't been featured anywhere. *shrug*

Make sure to visit her site and welcome baby Alex to the community. Tara has big plans and projects in the works so I look forward to seeing her and her family become more famous.

Racial Intolerance for Japanese Tsunami, Mixed Asians and Who else?

Sunday, March 20, 2011

As I read the recent post from DISGRASIAN titled "Bigotry ‘n’ Japan, Post-Tsunami" I was embarrassed, appalled and then scared. Are these famous people really saying these things? Out loud? Within the social media world for all to see?

anti asian 50 cent

anti asian gilbert

As I read the article and see the proof my heart aches. The fact that so many feel no fear or hesitation about making the most disrespectful and racially insensitive comments about a countries tragic events should be a wake up call. Clearly they feel it's ok....think about it and what that means.

anti asian

This isn't about what happened in Pearl Harbor and God's retribution. Honestly I think the USA got their revenge for that when they retaliated in the return bombing. I'd say they more than evened the score. So for some to think this is payback time is beyond....I can't even find a word for it....but stupid does fit. No this isn't about Pearl Harbor at all.

What this is about is the secret fear and hate that comes out of people when you least expect it. There seems to be a popping up of growing hatred for Japanese people. Some justify it by claiming it's linked to these recent events...but is it? Or is it more that this tragedy allows people to say and feel what has been inside them for years? Under the disguise of "USA pride" are people showing their true colors of racial hatred and intolerance?

As I sit here and think about my community members who are Japanese or half Japanese I worry for them. What does this growing anti Japanese social climate means for them? And to a larger degree what does this under lining disrespect for the Asian community mean overall?

A few months back when North & South Korea were in the news, I understood what being connected to that culture truly meant. I realized that when people starting being fearful of 'Koreans" it didn't matter if my son was connected to the North or South. A Korean to be feared is a Korean. Point blank. An Asian is an Asian, no matter that they have a separated culture, no matter that their mixed race, no matter that their American.

Hmm.

As a society, have we really grown racially tolerate or have we grown better at hiding our racial intolerance until an event gives us a cover to show the truth person inside? And how long before intolerance for one race of people begins to spill over to other races...again? Think about it.

Hines Ward Joins Dancing with the Stars Cast

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

What stars will be putting on their dancing shoes?  The new Dancing with the Stars Season 12 cast has been revealed! Guess who's included in the new cast lineup....Hines Ward!  That's right. Our favorite blasian Super Bowl Steeler gonna be shaking his groove thang on the dance floor.  Ya'll better join me and tune in to support our guy.

Hines Ward Dancing with Stars 12 cast

http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/cast-announcement-12/ThemeGallery/719756

So while I was checking out the DWS site and reading the little profile they put together for him I noticed something. Check out what they had to say about the "Helping Hands" foundation, which Hines formed to help blasian children in Korea.
Beyond football, Hines is a symbol of success and goodwill to the Korean community and all of Asia. He started his "Helping Hands" foundation in which he devotes his time in the U.S. and Korea to the fight against bi-racial discrimination.

The program in the U.S. focuses on improving literacy among children and provides programs and services to better equip them for achieving success in life. The program in Korea focuses on raising awareness for the problem of biracial discrimination and providing inspiration to the mixed race children in that country. Hines is considered an ambassador of hope to children everywhere.

Notice what I noticed?  They sorta left out that these children that are experiencing bi-racial discrimination are black and asian child specifically.  Gosh people can't the blasian community get any shine?!  That omission sorta waters down the main purpose of the "Helping Hands" foundation.  Hopefully Hines will get to speak about "Helping Hands" foundation and clarify that point.

And yes a bunch of other famous celebs will also be in the cast including hip hop star Romeo and gossip queen Wendy Williams. Wanna learn more about them then visit the site :)
